The World Bank has published a major report by its Independent Evaluation Department on the performance of World Bank programmes in Middle Income countries. OpenCities was a member of the external advisory panel overseeing the work. The report’s introduction acknowledges the role of OpenCities as a member of the external panel of experts. Details can be found at http://www.worldbank.org/ieg/mic. See ‘Evaluation Team’ for a list of external panel members.
The report finds that the World Bank’s support in fostering growth and reducing poverty has contributed to the considerable economic success of MIC countries. But to produce greater development benefits, it has to become more agile and draw upon MICs’ own capacity much more systematically, connecting such capabilities to help low-income countries and to tackle global challenges. The Bank’s work has to more clearly demonstrate best practice to deliver impact beyond its limited direct role.
